The other day I was directed to Technology Connection's pinball videos by a member of the weird formerly blaseball discord I'm in. The three(!) vids were a) supremely fun, reminded me of the intricate physical logic in the Cordovox accordion I have partially converted to digital and b) reminded me that Pinball Rules and it'd be cool if I could play more.
This led to a rabbit hole of "Space Cadet Pinball for Windows XP is alive and well and also even on android" so I have been playing it on my retroid pocket 4. You can't really remap the buttons as far as I can figure out (but the default is fine), and there is weird floating duplicate text of the back box overlaying the table, but it is a fun table and has been very fun to noodle with. As a kid I was always like "why can you hit the machine, isn't that cheating??" but I have since learned how the dance of hitting just enough to not tilt is a core part of Playing Real Good and I think it's neat. I have been playing with whacking the virtual table about and it's wild how it can stretch the reach of a paddle or alter the ball's path.
