a triangle lives here

music

I feel like topghost is so right here; historically speaking, afaiaa, music has been a singular activity--or I guess if there is something being done along with it, it is dancing. As incredible and good and magical and perfect and excellent as recorded sound is, it really is a shame that a consequence of it is music has become something that's just kinda... there, in the background, as something else is done. Listening to music as its own thing is Very Good! To stop and focus and dwell on sounds-in-time is a lovely thing to savor. I especially highly recommend going to live music of all genres whenever possible, be it your local highschool band/orchestra/choir or a jazz band that's in town or a outdoor concert once the weather's warm[1] or a fancy professional orchestra or a Cool band or a little garage band or whatever is available to you.

You should also just stop and put on your mp3 player or record player or cassette or whatever format you can reach right now and just listen to something nice while not doing anything else. It is a good activity!

  1. when I was a kid living in ames iowa, we would spend many the summer evening at the city bandshell, listening to my dad play in the community band and it ruled. Kids playing on a playground and a crowd of people, chairs, and blankets in the long summer twilight as big band rocks the area is Perfecto. ↩︎
