a triangle lives here

height

li's question is very good

I wanna say ~5 floors; it may be six? It was the maternity ward at the hospital we had Goose at, I was too busy being "wow, baby" and mad at the nurses[1] to pay attention, it coulda been more for all I know lol. Our window looked out at an inner courtyard thingy a few floors lower, and when we walked the four hallways of the floor I only remember seeing the parking garage.

Writing this, it reminds me I may have been higher at a different hospital, but I only recall I was visiting someone with someone else (a friend's family member maybe?) and that we were high up with a window whose view could also only see more of the hospital

I almost wrote the highest I have been is the Chicago Symphony's nosebleed section because a) it's funny and b) I'm pretty sure it is 4 stories up to the top seats there[2], but I'm too lazy to confirm that. I have lots of good memories of taking advantage of $15 tickets as a highschooler and college-er. My HS orchestra teacher also got in on a "watch us practice with Yo-Yo Ma" event there (we were much closer but also that's a big auditorium) that was positively sublime--the only thing better than watching musicians perform is watching them practice, a rarer and most vulnerable opportunity.

  1. really what I was truly mad at was their strict adherence to policy; they did a blood test and Gooseberry's glucose level was like a teensy bit lower than average so they tested her every couple of hours for what felt like an entire day and night. To get a sample they used an oversized thumb-pricker on the pad of her tiny infant foot and no one in that room liked it and it was very frustrating. At one point either during that or shortly after a nurse poked her head in and was surprised we were still there, commenting how a lot of people quietly cut and run after a day and I was like, "maybe we should!!" ↩︎

  2. compared to ground level, not the floor seating of the hall ↩︎
