a triangle lives here

Something has Clicked and now Gooseberry is choosing colors for art. The other day she was in a coloring book (already a rare event--she seems to dislike how much effort covering large blocks with color takes) carefully making every Disney princess have the right hair, eye, and dress color.

I'm sitting here now looking over as she draws, swapping out to blue for eyes to match hers or playing with adding details with highlighter or covering things with little pink dot "sparkles" and just marveling. She's invented a way to draw a little hair bow and insists on drawing all the babies swaddled. She'll doodle a little spiral, add a stick and show off her current obsession with lolipops. Kids, man. they're so cool. They explore and do and play and repeat and play and repeat and play and repeat and then suddenly go "hey look what I can do now" and blow your mind with something delightful and brilliant.

She's got some little Themes in her drawings right now: presents and birthdays and cakes, babies and dolls and accessories, squealing with excitement and someone plugging their ears because it is too loud[1]. It's a marvelous

  1. her exploring this duality is particularly funny--she is both of these kids ↩︎
